25th November is White Ribbon Day: Join the #ItStartswithMen Movement to End Violence Against Women and Girls
White Ribbon Day to be Marked by Organizations and Individuals Across England and Wales
London, UK – As White Ribbon Day approaches on November 25th, many organizations and individuals across England and Wales are preparing to show their commitment to ending violence against women and girls by promoting positive cultural change in their workplaces and communities.
This year’s theme, “It Starts with Men,” calls on men to hold themselves accountable for their actions towards women and to each other. By addressing harmful attitudes and behaviors towards women, we can create a safer world for all.
Violence against women and girls takes many forms, and even seemingly harmless behaviors and words can contribute to a culture of fear and violence. It is important that we recognize and address these behaviors to prevent more extreme forms of violence.
White Ribbon Day is an internationally recognized day where men show their commitment to ending violence against women and girls. By being allies to women every day, even the smallest actions can make a big difference. This year’s White Ribbon Day 2024 will focus on the message of “It Starts with Men.”
Events and activities to promote White Ribbon Day will be taking place throughout England and Wales, including dedicated matches from the Premier League, English Football League, and National League. Local councils will also be raising awareness and displaying white ribbons on ticket vending machines in stations and on trains.
Anthea Sully, Chief Executive of White Ribbon UK, stated, “White Ribbon Day is an important time for men to reflect and take action. We must work together to create a positive cultural change and challenge harmful attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate sexism and misogyny. It is time for men to take responsibility and make a difference so that women and girls can live their lives free from the fear and violence.”
