As Türkiye seeks EU recognition of döner kebab as a traditional product, Germany has raised objections to the claim. To support Türkiye’s case, Bereket Döner has released a thorough academic study highlighting döner’s Turkish origins and cultural importance.
On 5th December, at a press conference in Istanbul, Bereket Döner revealed findings aimed at strengthening Türkiye’s bid for EU recognition.
“Our research demonstrates that döner is deeply rooted in Turkish history and culture,” said Mevlüt Ceyhun Tekdemir, Vice Chairman of Bereket Döner’s Board. “From Takiyeddin Efendi’s 16th-century mechanical drawings to insights from Evliya Çelebi, our evidence leaves no doubt about döner’s origins. We trust the European Commission to recognise this heritage appropriately.”
The study, titled Türkiye’s World-Famous Delicacy: Döner, presents artefacts, engravings, and Ottoman documentation, reaffirming döner kebab as a cherished Turkish cultural tradition.
“Döner is not about division; it’s about unity,” Tekdemir stated. “It’s a culinary tradition that brings people together, blending cultures and tastes in a unique way.”
Bereket Döner also unveiled ambitious plans to expand its Döner Point outlets across Europe, with Germany serving as the starting point. This initiative aims to bring the authentic taste of Turkish döner to a wider European audience.
“We’re excited to bring the true taste of Turkish döner to Europe,” Tekdemir remarked. “Our expansion strategy reflects our commitment to preserving and sharing this cultural treasure with the world.”
