London’s New Year Parade Sparks Hope for the Future, Thanks to Urban Synergy

Urban Synergy, an award-winning charity dedicated to supporting young people from underrepresented communities, is proud to announce that it has been chosen as Lewisham’s charity for 2024/25. The charity will have the honor of representing the borough at London’s prestigious New Year’s Day Parade with its float themed “A Brighter Tomorrow: Powered by Youth and Innovation.”

The float, which is supported by Goldsmiths University, Lewisham Youth Theatre, and local artists from Lewisham Arthouse, will showcase the talents, creativity, and resilience of Lewisham’s youth. It reflects Urban Synergy’s mission to prepare young people for the careers of tomorrow, with a focus on fields driven by education, technology, and innovation.

Leila Thomas, CEO & Founder of Urban Synergy, and Lewisham Mayoress, expressed her excitement about the opportunity to celebrate the youth of urban areas and their achievements. She said, “We are proud to represent Lewisham on such a prestigious platform and kick off 2025 by highlighting the positive impact of our young people, mentors, role models, and corporate supporters on creating safer and happier communities.”

She said, “Urban Synergy has already transformed the lives of over 30,000 young people and continues to inspire, guide, and empower them through mentorship, role models, and opportunities. Their work is about igniting possibility and building a brighter future for the next generation.”

Lewisham Young Mayor Bilvilyn Asamoah added, “As young Mayor, attending this parade is an opportunity to connect with our community and showcase our vibrant culture. I represent the voices of our young and I’m excited to highlight the importance of unity as we step into a new year together.”

The float will also feature performances from the Queens’ Walking Group, the Skaters’ Cabal, and local artists from Lewisham Arthouse. Victoria Shaskan, CEO of Lewisham Youth Theatre, shared her enthusiasm for joining forces with Urban Synergy to represent the potential of Lewisham’s young people in the London New Year’s Day Parade. The float’s design and build were made possible by the artists of Goldsmith University, and SQS Limited generously donated their lorry for the parade. Leila Thomas thanked SQS Limited for their continuous support and commitment to diversity and social mobility. She said, “We appreciate everything they do for us, from giving young people work experience to being part of our events and a key sponsor throughout the year.”
