Francis House Cheshire Three Peaks Challenge Draws Over 200 Walkers in Support of Children’s Hospice

On a scorching summer day, more than 200 walkers gathered at Tegg’s Nose Country Park in Macclesfield on Sunday, June 23rd, to participate in the annual Francis House Cheshire Three Peaks Challenge.

Francis House Children’s Hospice, based in Didsbury, provides support to families of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. The organization offers respite care and a range of palliative care services, including nursing, play therapy, and occupational and creative therapy.

The challenging route, covering up to 14 miles with steep climbs, was made even more difficult by the humid conditions. Despite the tough conditions, participants from various organizations and solo hikers took on the challenge with determination.

Among the groups represented were barristers’ chambers Nine St John Street, architects BTP, professional services company Accenture, and packaging agency Pulse Media. Families, friend groups, and solo walkers also joined in to support the cause.

BTP Architects, joined by their four-legged friends, raised an impressive £730 in sponsorship. Emma Cross, Business Development Director at BTP, shared, “The BTP team thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Francis House Cheshire Three Peaks Challenge. It was a fantastic opportunity to spend time outdoors, collaborate as a team, and contribute to raising funds for this incredible charity that supports vulnerable children, young adults, and their families.”

A group of Community Champions from several local Morrisons stores banded together and raised over £400. Solo walker Simon Sayers completed the 13.6-mile distance in an impressive time of 3 hours and 38 minutes.

Rachel Nasiri, fundraising officer for Francis House, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community. “The Francis House Cheshire Three Peaks Challenge is a much-loved event with record-breaking numbers of walkers taking part this year. Thanks to the support of so many people giving up their Sunday to hike the Cheshire hills, we have been able to raise a fantastic amount of money to allow our care team to support some of the most vulnerable children and their families,” she said.

The event saw the biggest team of the day from Lucchini Unipart Rail, with 22 participants. A group of nine teenagers from Wilmslow also participated in memory of their friend Amber and raised an incredible £3,943. “It felt like a real accomplishment once we finished, knowing it was for such a good cause,” said Ruby Kalayil Peacock.

The Francis House Cheshire Three Peaks Challenge is expected to raise over £15,000 in vital funds for the hospice. To learn more about Francis House and upcoming events, visit www.francishouse.org.uk/get-involved/events.
