Poundland’s founder, Steven Smith, is backing a pioneering initiative to expand franchising opportunities in the UK. The project, Franchise Angels, was conceived by Joel Bissitt, a leading figure in the franchising sector and the founder of Infinity Business Growth NetworkFranchise UK & the Quality Franchise Association.

Joining Bissitt are Steven Smith and Ian Townsend, a seasoned entrepreneur and expert in franchising law who also serves as COO of the Quality Franchise Association. Franchise Angels plans to target businesses with proven models and strong brand recognition, offering them tailored franchising support, operational assistance, and advice on exit strategies. The initiative will feature a “Dragons’ Den” style pitch event where shortlisted applicants will present their businesses to the Franchise Angels.

Joel Bissitt expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying: “We have a great combination of skills & experience in our team including investing, legal & franchising. I am delighted that someone of Steven’s stature is supporting this initiative, supporting the growth of small businesses & flying the flag for UK entrepreneurship.”

Steven Smith remarked: “Success is not just about what you accomplish in your life, it’s about what you inspire others to do. I am therefore delighted to support this project & look forward to supporting ambitious entrepreneurs.”
